Handling Sinead

Sinead came to me by referral from the fantastic Karla Boyle.

I don't want to be disingenuous - Karla got Sinead to this level, so I'm not taking credit for this competition - in fact I'm going to keep this one a little more brief.

Sinead had some issues with an ankle injury prior to this comp, a simple roll of the ankle gave her a lot of grief in the run up to this competition. We met up a few times to just make some last minute technique changes in place and set her up a plan.

On the day of the comp, I made sure to do my usual duties - make sure the client is essentially lifted and laid, so that they don't need to worry about anything other than the weight lifted on stage.

Full valet service on display here. I think it's really important to treat the client as the centre of attention on the day, picked up sharp, managed to a tee and brought up and down emotionally as necessary.

Sinead managed to finish the day going 8/9.

Squats: 110, 117.5, 125 (pb)

Bench: 60, 65, 70 (pb)

Deadlift: 125, 130, 137.5 (no lift)

The grip was the main issue on deadlift, leading to the fail on 137.5.

Sinead actually came on board after this as a client. We're competing alongside Niamh in May as the beginnings of my small powerlifting team! I've got big plans for her overall. I see great potential and hunger for the sport, we just need to iron out some learned habits and make her technique more efficient.

Sinead currently could be a lot stronger, I think she's got a "ceiling" on her strength, particularly on squats - a balance issue which is causing plenty of energy leaks. If we can get all of these ironed out I'm sensing huge pbs cascading in. Super excited to get going!
